Oriental dance “Oh so quiet”- Intermediate Level

Robyn Friend

Robyn is a Persian dancer and choreographer based in Los Angeles USA. Internationally renowned for her knowledge and skill in Persian dance, Robyn is teaching a Persian dance workshop.
Persian Classical and Popular Dance
The workshop will begin with a warm-up routine that focuses on posture and alignment, and introduces some basic movements and styling for Persian Classical and Party (balmy) dance. Robyn will then teach specific movements that will be used in a choreography she will teach. The music for the choreography (by Began Mortazavi, “Ey Maah Bebin”) though modern, is suffused with imagery and symbolism from Persian mystical poetry. Robyn will explain the poetry and how the movements interpret both the poetic ideas and the musical accompaniment. By the end of the workshop, participants will have acquired a basic understanding of how to dance to Persian party music, as well as a small taste from the rich banquet that is Persian Classical dance. top

Carla Phillips

Carla was taught Tunisian dance whilst living in Tunisia. Carla is passionate about sharing this fun and energetic style with other dancers and is teaching:
Tunisian workshop
An introduction to traditional Tunisian steps and rhythms which dancers can take away and use in their own routines. Tunisian dance takes place on the balls of the feet so a reasonable level of fitness is required. Carla will end the workshop with a demonstration in traditional dress. top

She performs and teaches throughout the UK and Europe. Donna spent some time living and working in Spain and developed a love of Flamenco and Spanish culture.
Easy Does It
This is a technique-based workshop, designed to show people how to “find” their core muscles, to help with good posture and balance and to really control strong slow moves. It is suitable for beginners and those with dance experience. Donna will show you how to achieve fluidity and prevent injury. Learn how to lead and follow slow moves with confidence and grace. Beautiful arms and hands are within your reach. Bring a yoga mat or towel for some gentle floor exercises to help you identify muscles. Beginners will learn the principles of how to achieve shape and control. Advanced dancers will refine and finesse.
Flamenco Passion
New moves for your Tribal Fusion repertoire. Pedralta Dance go back to the roots of Flamenco and incorporate flamenco and sevillana moves into their Improvisational repertoire. You will work on beautiful hands and arms and use of floreos (circular wrist movements) and new combos. More important than the moves and combos is the spirit of Flamenco. Release the power of duende from within. This is an open level workshop. Dancers of all levels will be able to work to their own pace. top

Other activities

Souk
There will be a souk attached to the cafe rest area at The Mayfair Community centre. A number of vendors will be tempting you with all things dance from shoes, to sparkly dance clothes to jewellery!

Cafe/small performance platform
There will be a relaxation/rest area attached to the cafe. We are hoping to provide a small scale informal performance platform here which will be ongoing throughout the weekend. The space will accommodate small groups and solo dancers (as long as routine does not need too much space!)
If you or your group are interested in having a slot then please contact the Pycoob team.

Dance discussions
We have noticed that practical workshops do not always give us enough about the dance style we are learning. Throughout the weekend we are planning some dance discussions to take place with our guest teachers so they can share their knowledge and culture of their dance style
