Footwork is a partnership of Persian dancer Medea Mahdavi and administrator Philip Walker. Medea and Philip have been writing articles and reviews on Middle Eastern dance and the Middle East in general for some time. Ghazala is their first venture into publishing.
Medea Mahdavi was born in Iran and moved to England as a teenager. She has evolved a highly individual style of dance theatre, incorporating Persian and other Middle Eastern dance styles with commissioned music and spoken word. Medea's most recent project was 'Can I dance, can I play? ', a collaboration with saxophonist/composer Andy Sheppard. It was performed in 1998 and 1999.
Philip Walker is administrator of Medea Mahdavi Dance Company. He previously worked as Marketing Manager of Bath International Festival. He also works for the Higher Education Funding Council for England.
